HUNGER’s MVP of the week

Welcome to HUNGER’s Most Valuable Player, the place to find the best things to buy, watch, do or listen to each week. Forget about the hype, we want to separate what’s hot, what’s not, and what needs to be on your radar…

With the sun (very) slowly starting to peak back into our lives, you might as well get ahead of the curve and get your Summer sunnies rotation on lock early. So, thankfully, Gucci has come in clutch once again, thanks to their SS23 Bold Cat Eye selection. A fresh take on the classic cat eye lens, these shades meet at the crossroads of contemporary, sleek design and vintage allure. Coming in a variety of looks, the bold lenses are finished with an always-welcome golden Gucci script on the temple.

We all love premium streetwear, but we don’t all love the extortionate price points. Luckily, streetwear reselling brand 777 – known for their affordable pricing – has recently opened their flagship store in Camden, London. In terms of brands, you can expect all the biggest names in streetwear, including Stussy, Palace, and rare pieces from Supreme – and all for under retail price. The store launched after a number of successful pop-ups around London, and we’re pretty psyched there’s now a permanent home for the best affordable streetwear on the market.

Next, we have to shout out to one of the stars of our recent Amazon Music Listening event. No, it’s not any of the acts (although they were immense); it’s the premium vodka brand Edwards 1902 – who kept the drinks flowing all evening. The ultra-pure spirit is born in Lincolnshire and produced from King Edward potatoes (hence the name). The brand, which takes pride in supporting its local community, also recently launched its cold brew coffee liquor – the perfect ingredient for all you Espresso Martini lovers out there.

An old classic with a new face, Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel is up next for MVP. A long-time love affair between the feminine fragrance and its fans prove that even as the times may go on, the scent remains a quintessential part of the perfume collection for any self-respecting Chanel lover. The amber fragrance now enters a new era with Whitney Peak as the face — the actor is the star of the Gossip Girl reboot and Hocus Pocus 2. Since the perfume’s introduction to the Chanel fragrance family in 2001, it has become a mainstay scent with sparks of orange, jasmine and rose, accented by patchouli and vetiver. Coco Mademoiselle is the scent for the modern bold woman, and with Peak as the face, defines a new and exciting journey for everyone’s favourite classic.

This week’s MVP is awarded to London hotel One Hundred Shoreditch, which has teamed up once more with contemporary art gallery The Old Bank Vault – bringing us the self-love pop-up shop, NO ORDINARY LOVE. The pop-up features a whole host of programmes and workshops and an art installation from Polly Verity, known for her famous paper-folded kissing portraits. Meanwhile, a product showcase from ILOH – the UK’s first sexual health and wellbeing products designed by women for women – will also be on display alongside other products, books, fragrances and more. The Flower Crown Workshop will also be taking place this Saturday, where floristry designer Sophie Powell (AKA Unidentified Floral Object) will be hosting her first floristry workshop of 2023. NO ORDINARY LOVE is open to visit until March 8th.
