HUNGER’S MVP of the week

Welcome to HUNGER’s Most Valuable Player, the place to find the best things to buy, watch, do or listen to each week. Forget about the hype, we want to separate what’s hot, what’s not, and what needs to be on your radar…

If you’d like to kick off your day by looking at possibly the worst and best thing you’ve ever seen in your life, check out the new baguette bag that KFC has created. Some things should simply not exist, and maybe this is one of them. And definitely not for £198. Whilst it’s Y2K all over and is actually slightly tempting fast-food fashion, it still doesn’t come close to this week’s MVP spot.

But, on the plus side, it is in aid of the KFC Foundation which provides financial support to people seeking higher education.

Whilst the MARNI x UNIQLO collaboration doesn’t drop until mid May, we’ve searched for another suitable MVP this week, which comes in the form of a strange pairing of two worlds.

Clothing brand A Bathing Ape and gin company Monkey 47 have joined forces for a one-off collection. Rarely do clothing and alcohol come together beyond fashion week, but when they do, it’s normally for good reason.

BAPE, a brand synonymous with streetwear, and known for bold patterns and baggy cuts, has a history of landmark collaborations. In 2001, BAPE x PEPSI dropped, and cans from the collection can probably still be found on mantelpieces in hypebeasts’ houses around the world. Then, of course, there have been a string of brand-on-brand endeavours, with the likes of Supreme, Adidas, Obey, and with artists such as KAWS.

But this time around, BAPE is dipping its toes in the 47% ABV and conjuring up a concoction of Japanese design along with German spirits.

Available exclusively from Selfridges, the collaboration boasts hoodies, t-shirts, Hawaiian shirts, skateboards and, of course, a limited edition bottle of Monkey 47 gin. Like with anything BAPE touches, the collection is bound to sell out. And like with anything that Monkey 47 creates, it’s bound to taste good. This is definitely one for your drinks cabinet.
