HUNGER’S MVP of the week

Welcome to HUNGER’s Most Valuable Player, the place to find the best things to buy, watch, do or listen to each week. Forget about the hype, we want to separate what’s hot, what’s not, and what needs to be on your radar…

Of course, this week marks celebrations across the nation as we prepare for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee (and a four day weekend). Her Majesty’s 70th year as Monarch will be celebrated with events up and down the country. If patriotism is your cup of tea then why not take in some of the celebratory events?

On Saturday (4th June) the royal family will be attending the Epsom Derby and then heading down to BBC’s Platinum Party At The Palace, a concert featuring Diana Ross, Alicia Keys and Queen. The show will be televised on BBC One and will kick off at 7:30 pm. The celebrations will come to a close on Sunday (5th June) with the Platinum Jubilee Pageant which will see thousands of performers process down the mall. Even Ed Sheeran will be making an appearance amongst a selection of 150 national treasures.

The Queen isn’t for everyone, however, so if you’re looking for something a bit more raucous and rebellious then what could be better than Liam Gallagher. The icon will be performing at Knebworth Park to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Oasis’ era-defining shows at the park. The gig will be Gallaghers biggest solo show to date, with 160,000 people expected across the two days.

Gallagher is a true performer in every sense, combine that with his iconic setlist and this show will be one of those events talked about for years to come. Other notable names joining Gallagher on the lineup will be Kasabian and Michael Kiwanuka. The gigs coincide with the release of the Mancunian’s latest album ‘C’mon You Know’ which is out now. It might be the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee but Gallagher snatches her crown to become this week’s MVP.
