INSTAGLAM: The account exploring protest art through make up

Dewendeprincesa AKA Malaya Harris is the punk artist using her face as a canvas for discussion

The current climate has reignited a need for further erosion and exploration. A generation of autonomous creative beings all grappling with their expectations of a just society and the harsh realities of the society with which they reside. Protest has and always will be the most affective modes of change for citizens on an individualistic level and has manifested itself in copious ways from marches, demonstrations, boycotting and more. What’s interesting about the digital age and has been for the last decade is the reach that an individual can capture by simply garnering viral engagement.

Malaya Harris is one of those individuals. A punk artist by day and protest artist always. Harris’s social commentaries range from race and beauty ideals. from works ranging renaissance paintings and figures to more sartorial pieces reframing our perceptions of freedom. From found materials to acrylic figurines, this is the account to follow for some much needed social discourse all encompassed by a very aesthetically pleasing feed.
