Jamie xx drops first track in five years

The enigmatic producer and The xx alumn released frenetic floor-filler "Idontknow" earlier today.

Producer and DJ Jamie xx, who rose to fame as a member of 2010s electronic trio The xx, has returned after a five-year solo hiatus with  “Idontknow”. Frenetic and high-spirited, it’s an homage to the euphoria of rave culture that we’re all sorely missing.

Despite only releasing the single today (15 April) he has been playing it, without an ID, during his sets over the past year. The track has also been played by other DJs such as Ben UFO, Four Tet and Caribou before its official release. Jamie has also shared a 35-second preview of the “Idontknow” video, which features dance artist Oona Doherty.

Jamie’s last solo release was 2015 LP In Colour, which was nominated for the Mercury Prize. In the intervening period, he has produced tracks for Headie One and Fred again (“Smoke”) and Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson (“Nothing Breaks Like A Heart”). The xx released their third album, I See You, in 2017.
