Jennifer Aniston crashes Insta with a grainy selfie

The actress served major 2012 vibes with a poorly lit 'Friends' reunion pic as she joined IG and promptly sent the platform into meltdown.

Jennifer Aniston certainly believes in being fashionably late. The Friends actor — she also has lots of other acting credits but this is the only important one for the issue at hand —  made her first official Instagram account yesterday (15 October), some 6 years after pretty much everybody else on the planet.

Tardiness doesn’t seem to have done her too much harm, however. Amassing a whopping 7.4 million followers at the time of writing and over 9 million likes on her first post, the quantity of traffic led her page to temporarily crash as news of her joining the platform quickly spread. In the midst of the micro-crisis of fans clamouring to follow Aniston only to be confronted with the familiar “Sorry, this page isn’t available” warning,  a spokesperson for Instagram said: “We are aware that some people are having issues following Jen’s page — the volume of interest is incredible! We are actively working on a solution and hope to have the page up and running smoothly again shortly.”

Any famous person joining socials is sure to stir up a bit of hype (we love that #celebcontent!) but not many are capable of breaking the Internet. The grainy selfie that she posted on her page isn’t just any poorly lit snapshot but rather a pic of her alongside Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer and Matthew Perry. Or rather Rachel with Monica, Phoebe, Joey, Ross and Chandler, the Greenwich Village-dwelling BFFs from long-running sitcom Friends, just in case anyone born post-millennium doesn’t get the reference. Sure to fan the flames of reboot rumours, her following is no doubt composed of the kind of 90s nostalgics who campaigned to make Friends available on Netflix. Over on stories, Aniston’s keen to continue the “friends” theme, resharing posts from IRL pals Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Garner and Dolly Parton welcoming her to the platform.

Lo-fi selfies aside, we’re impressed with Aniston’s instantaneous IG celebrity – check out her post below for some pointers on how to break 1k followers.
