Julia Garner offered role of Madonna in Biopic

The Inventing Anna star has been offered one of the most sought after roles in recent years.

It seems as though Julia Garner will be blessing our screens as the iconic ‘Material Girl’ very shortly. According to Variety, the 28-year olds team are still mulling it over, although they are “considering and expected to accept the offer.”

The Inventing Anna star was first rumoured to be in the running all the way back in August 2020, when Madonna’s manager Guy Oseary followed the actress on Instagram. The resemblance between the actress and a young Madonna is uncanny and fans have been clamouring for her to give a portrayal of the iconic pop star since the project was announced.

Florence Pugh, Bebe Rexha, Sky Ferreira, Emma Laird, as well as Euphoria stars Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, and Barbie Ferreira, were all rumoured to be up for the iconic lead role.

Upon announcement of the film, Madonna said she hoped to “convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer — a human being, trying to make her way in this world. The focus of this film will always be music.  Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision.”

The hotly-anticipated project has been in the works for a number of years, and was hit with delays when Madonna, 63, parted ways with original screenwriter Diabo Cody. A production timeline for the film is still unknown.
