Lady Gaga officially confirmed for Joker sequel ‘Folie à Deux’

The star is expected to play Harley Quinn alongside Joaquin Phoenix.

The last few weeks have been rife with ‘will she-won’t she’ rumours about Lady Gaga’s next big film role – but the time for second guessing is over as the star herself announced that she will indeed star in the new Joker film, officially titled Joker: Folie à Deux. The polymath revealed she’s been cast in the highly anticipated movie – sharing a short teaser of the flick online.

The mini-trailer offers a silhouette of her and Phoenix’s Joker dancing together. The video’s tone certainly leans into the rumours that the film will be a musical (perfect for Gaga). ‘Cheek to Cheek’ eerily plays over the slightly awkward moves of Phoenix and Gaga, perhaps hinting at the tunes the two stars will be belting out.

While it’s not confirmed, the pop star is expected to play the role of Harley Quinn, Joker’s usually toxic love interest. Todd Phillips posted the screenplay on June 7th, revealing the title as Joker: Folie à Deux. The phrase refers to a shared delusional disorder, and it seems like the main character in Joker’s universe that fits that description would be (you guessed it) Harley Quinn – the Joker’s deranged love interest.

Gaga’s stellar performances in House Of Gucci and A Star Is Born already has us counting down the days to the far away release date of October 4th, 2024 – it does give us plenty of time to plan a killer Halloween outfit for next year!
