Let Kara Marni be your Internet Guide

Kara Marni is both an old soul and a new innovator: bringing her own rich tapestry of influences to the forefront, she fuses this with modern soul-pop powerhouse vibes, and kills it every time. Drawing from the likes of Minnie Ripperton, Roberta Flack, Amy Winehouse and Lauyrn Hill, Kara’s understanding of her sound is as rich as her record collection.

Describing her sound and style in simple terms, “I love soul music, I love current music, and it’s the fusion of the two”, she explained last year, she’s since proved it to be true in her debut EP, Love Just Aint Enough. A powerful 7-track project, the London native has found her vibe and is sticking to it. Starting out with sharp covers of soul classics like Minnie Riperton’s ‘Loving You’ (which is what originally caught her managers attention), she’s since taken her inspirations on board and made her voice her own. We caught up with Kara Marni to ask 10 burning questions to get to know the meteoric rising star…

Is the Internet a good or bad thing for music?

As with everything there are pros and cons – obviously the way we consume music has changed over the years where digital streaming has become the main source of consumption. I do miss saving up to got to the store to buy that album by your favourite artist and knowing the songs on it inside out by the end of the week! However, I think now with online platforms like Spotify, Apple Music etc artists can be discovered more easily! I ultimately think it’s exciting as the potential reach for unknowns is better than ever before!

How many followers represent success?

If you even have one follower that is coming to your shows and buying your music, then I think that’s great!

Finally…what’s going on in your life?

Practicing my culinary skills, making new music and love island of course!
