A singer songwriter with a difference, Tim Atlas’ mesh of influences has led him to a unique emotive sound and style. Born in Oakland now based in San Jose, the artist found himself in his music-heavy upbringing, heading to study photography but ending up in recording studios as an engineer, and music found its way back to him. We caught up with Tim Atlas to find out how he found his way back to his first love so let the Californian rising star be your Internet Guide…
What would you like to see more of online? What about less of?
I’d like to see more epic fails. I’d like to see less cheesy, irrelevant captions for selfie posts.
What or who is the best account you follow? The worst?
Probably Daily Dose of Internet on youtube. It just compiles a bunch of interesting/funny clips. I could watch that channel all damn day. Also @babyanmals. The worst account? I feel like this will get me in trouble. Um, anyone claiming to be an influencer or public figure.
What’s the craziest thing you’ve read about yourself online?
I think there was an article on how I look like some random Thai soccer player. Sorry, no scandals that I know of!
What’s your favourite meme?
What’s your earliest memory of the Internet?
Making an email address and forwarding chain letters out of fear. Because if i didn’t, I’d apparently die the next day.
Is the Internet a good or bad thing for music?
It’s a GREAT thing for music. Before the internet was so integrated into our lives, I was making copies of flyers and burning CDs to pass out my shitty music. I don’t miss that. I will say that the industry is so saturated with new music every day, but I still feel better about reaching more ear drums with more efficiency.
How many followers represent success?
I don’t think followers & likes matter as much as engagement and human impact. I’d rather make a difference to 10 followers than add 0 value to 100k followers.
Finally…what’s going on in your life?
Well. I’m making this new record set to be released next year. And I’m living my best life doing something I love!
