We caught up with the rising star to find out just how she found herself, and where she’s off to next…

Describe your music in 3 words…

Honest. Mood. Musical.

Who’s your greatest influence?

Nobody really influences me but my mum has played a big part in supporting me and getting me on my feet by putting me into music lessons etc. My family in general by surrounding me with music at home whether they’re playing sade or just playing the instruments in our house. It had me envisioning what I wanted from a very young age.

What does music mean to you?

Music to me means self expression and freedom. When I write my lyrics or sit by the piano it’s always lead by an emotion otherwise I feel un motivated. Happy or sad emotions, their just has to be intent behind what I’m doing. When I say freedom I mean I can and should do whatever I want with music. I can also listen to whatever I want. There’s no rules, only the ones you make… but there are opinions… which is fine. Sometimes my friends will listen to a song and I’ll respond with “what on earth are you playing I don’t like it” and they’ll disagree.

Who’s the last person you called?

I called my Mum because she’s in London and I’m on a train back from Manchester.

What did you talk about?

She wanted to know if she should save me some “pepper water” which is an Anglo Indian dish that she cooked. It’s amazinggggggggggggggggg. My mum cooks the best food so I of course said yes please.

One item of clothing you couldn’t live without?

A hoody !! Always needed.

One album you couldn’t live without?

Tough question because I go in and out of obsessions with certain artists and albums. I’m going to say Lauryn Hill – The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill just because I still haven’t gotten bored of it.

What’s your favourite way to spend £10?

Nandos – Chicken thighs hot with regular chips and a 1/4 avocado mmm.

How about £100?

I’d probably not want to spend a £100 and save it until I have more than that and then maybe use it to travel. I like to spend for experience if it isn’t on clothes  🙂

What’s next for you?

More music. Some live shows. Everything else I’m gonna play by ear and take life as it comes.
