The grad designer to know producing ‘Mobile Couture’

Mobile Couture. It's now a thing. Samsung has just unveiled world’s first capsule fashion collection produced entirely from a smartphone. Samsung partnered with Edinburgh College of Art graduate and Winner of the Dame Vivienne Westwood Sustainable & Ethical Award, Aurélie Fontan, to create a sustainable/sci-fi collection (produced using cutting edge technology controlled directly through the Galaxy Note9). The phone was used in seven major processes in design and production, from 3D printed fastenings to the use of a "digital robotic drawing arm". The Note9’s power, storage and performance enabled Aurélie to work on the collection wherever she was, and reduced the time it would usually take to create a mini collection by 40%. The resulting garments are made from a mix of recyclable leather and biodegradable plastics, and aim to show how technology can truly innovate the couture design and production process. Aurélie was one-to-watch at London Graduate Fashion Week 2018, thanks to her world-first ‘Kombucha’ dress, which was made using fabric grown entirely from Kombucha tea, sugar, bacteria and yeast.
