The Hermosillo trio's nightmarish reggaeton has become a fast favourite in Mexico City's underground scene.

Brought up in Hermosillo in North-West Mexico, singer Ángel Ballesteros and producers Error.Error and Bonsai Babies teamed up for the first time to make a horror movie. Since then, they’ve started making music under the moniker Meth Math and have gathered an underground following, including scene kingpin Rosa Pistola, for their spooky take on reggaeton. Making their mark with debut “Perreando y Llorando” (“Cry-dancing”) and following up with synth-heavy “El Vals De La Piedra” (“Stone Waltz) they layer club-ready beats, experimental production and distorted vocals for a unique satanic-inspired sound.

We slid into Ángel’s DMs to chat early Neopets memories and the best songs from Animal Crossing.

@hungermagazine: What’s your earliest memory internet?

@methmathxoxo: I loved making theme rooms in my Neopets house. Also, the Cartoon Network website had a very cool Dexter game and I wasted a lot of time on paper dolls and Barbie.com.

@hungermagazine: What are your five top emojis and why?

@methmathxoxo: 😏🥺🤑🙏😖 probably because I feel that way all the time.

@hungermagazine: You’ve switched your Spotify account to private: what are you listening to?

@methmathxoxo: I actually don’t use Spotify I’m more of a YouTube and SoundCloud listener! My latest like on YouTube is “Only Me” by K.K. Slider which I first heard from the dog that sings at the bar in Animal Crossing. It made me cry the first time I listened to it.

@hungermagazine: Do you use dating apps?

@methmathxoxo: I have downloaded out of curiosity and even made profiles but I never went through with it. That would be too awkward because I don’t even go on dates in real life.

@hungermagazine: Have you ever been blocked?

@methmathxoxo: Yes, their loss.

@hungermagazine: What’s your most used app and why?

@methmathxoxo: IG mostly for the memes and I get contacted there a lot since it’s my only social media but I’m entering the world of Twitch. It looks fun and people will give you money just because.
