Pablo Thecuadro is the illustrator expressing the duality of humanity

Art that intricately expresses who we really are versus what we show to the world...

Intrigued by the nature of human kind, Spanish artist Pablo Thecuadro’s collages allow him a platform to express the complexities of the world. “Collage art is a never-ending process, you can put as many images you want together over and over again”, the creative explained he draws major inspiration from “the duality in the human being, the face we show to the others vs. our true selves…how the time affect us, concepts like before and after, create and destroy”.  Teaming up with Sony and likeminded designers to create exclusive designs for the newly launched FES Watch U, Pablo described how he found a design which “is inspired in the same way my collage work is inspired”: humanity, duality and time. HUNGER caught up with Pablo to find out how he found a place to express through art and what this project means to him…

Why did you want to be involved in Sony’s project? Talk us through your design and process?

It was a great opportunity to show your profile to a lot of people, and I’m so grateful that you contacted me to be part of this project! Of course I wanted to be involved. I’m a collage artist and my pieces have usually a lot of content, but in terms of style, I usually dress wearing basics and almost a uniform. So I thought about mixing my collage work with my minimalist style when it comes to clothing.

Do you remember the moment you knew you wanted to create?

When my parents bought me a digital camera when I was a teenager. I started with the photography because I wanted to remember everything I liked.

Who or what are your greatest artistic influences?

When I was younger I felt very inspired by Lara Jade, she’s 3 years older than me and for me she was super advanced and professional. Now I really love the mind of Nick Knight, how he plays with technology and break all the rules, knowing them first.

Where do you start when you begin a collage?

Choosing a picture I want to play with, because I see a lot of ways to modify it or because I love it.

When did you become interested in fusing together art and fashion?

For me fashion is art, you can express yourself through it, so it’s easy for me to fuse them.

You talk about expressing the duality of human beings, how do you feel you explore this through art?

Because we have a lot of different faces and angles in our lives, for example I started studying photography, but in the last year I discovered collage, and that improved my sense of photography I think.
