Photographer Mary Fix shoots a Pantone inspired beauty story

When you hear “Classic Blue” is Pantone's Colour of the Year 2020…

Criticisms abounded when Pantone announced that their colour of the year was no other than Classic Blue. Whilst the company reasoned that their choice was “elegant in its simplicity”, some people took this as corporate spin for “uninspiring”.  Whilst a more novel shade might have been better appreciated, we’re personally fierce defenders of Classic Blue.

Blue isn’t boring, and we’re not the only people to think so. Artist Yves Klein loved blue so much that he copyrighted his own hue, writer Maggie Nelson devoted an entire poetry collection to the colour and Derek Jarman’s final film plays out over a blue screen. Oh, and don’t even get us started on Blue Is The Warmest Colour.

Like us, photographer Mary Fix is a blue aficionado and proves her chops with beauty editorial Pantone. Here, faces are adorned with painterly strokes of blue alongside a smattering of yellow, red and green. Think “colour me crazy” but with an abstract expressionist flair.
