Photographer Scott Butler delves into South Asian and Caribbean fashion for this cultural alternate reality

Scott Butler and team reference the work of Malick Sidibé for this showcase of culture and heritage.

Inspired by renowned African photographer Malick Sidibé – known for his black-and-white studies of popular culture in 1960’s Mali – photographer Scott Butler and his team created this editorial to showcase cultures in an alternative reality. Using a slew of South Asian and Caribbean brands, including Nicholas Daley, Saul Nash, and Ahluwalia – all of which are effortlessly styled by Ajay Singh – Butler used Sidibé’s stylistic flair in a series of images that reimagined the photographer’s famed technique, and by-and-by highlighted a selection of labels that weave culture and heritage throughout their designs.
