Rick Owens collaborates with Champion for their SS20 menswear collection

No stranger to a good collab; Rick Owens' newest installment is Champion exclusive
Palais de Tokyo was fueled by the architectural prowess and imagery of home at this season’s Rick Owens’ mens show. An unexpected delight as Sport’s giant Champion, who celebrates their centenary anniversary this year, collaborates with the boundary-breaking, fashion provocateur. When approached on the intent behind the collection, Owens explained, “I remember my cousins wearing Champion t-shirts and shorts when we used to visit the family in Mexico in the seventies……in this project here I have turned those traditional athletic clothes into togas, loincloths and under-briefs”  reimagining sports pieces for classic, timeless pieces, all featuring the Champion “C”  encompassed by a s tar.
An interesting dichotomy between the US’s ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) regime and  the fashion industry’s indifference towards South American designers and house. Rick Owen’s is kin to teeter on the edge of controversy and this collaboration is a perfect example of where two worlds can come together to make strong statements, but also appeal aesthetically to various different consumership’s.
