Size doesn’t matter! Someone just bought the MSCHF microscopic handbag for sixty-three thousand dollars

The bag went on sale at Pharrell’s ‘Just Phriends’ auction…

You know what they say about buying boats, so perhaps fashion’s response to this is the smaller the handbag, the more prominent the Big Dick Energy… When hype-loving brand MSCHF revealed its microscopic handbag for JOOPITER on the 15th of June, the masses asked why, but evidently, a few were extremely intrigued.

The bag is less than 0.03 inches wide in size and is barely visible to the naked eye. It was one of the many items put up for auction for Pharrell’s JOOPITER ‘Just Phriends’ sale, with no one really knowing the exact worth of the items until bidding began.

The uber-mini bag is slightly smaller than a grain of rice, and twice the size of a grain of sand (if that’s any consolation). The sale finished on the 27th of June, with pricing lists being revealed for some of the highest pieces, including the infamous rice-adjacent bag. It ended up being sold for a mere $63,750. Bargain!

The Brooklyn-based label claims the bag can actually pass through the eye of a needle, so isn’t exactly ideal if you’re prone to losing your bag on a night out. It was made using two-photon polymerisation – a manufacturing technology used to produce 3D micro-scale plastic parts. Luckily, the sale includes a microscope equipped with a digital display so you can actually view the bag in all its glory. The promotional image shows the neon green number complete with a handle and the signature ‘LV’ monogram included, similar to the OnTheGo tote by the French fashion house, which retails between $3,100 and $4,300. At almost five hundred times bigger, the original design is almost fifteen times cheaper than the one-off mini. But you really can’t put a rational price on one of fashion’s most hyped accessories, right?

Other designs in the sale included the LV x Virgil Abloh Dream House Window Mannequin that went for $65,000, the Pharrell Williams x Richard Mille RM 65-01 that sold as $481,250, and the staggering ‘Portrait of an English Lady’ by George Condo for $1,050,000. The ‘Just Phriends’ auction took place during Paris Men’s Fashion Week, falling alongside his headline-hitting debut collection for the brand.

The musician, producer, and now designer has also announced his skincare line Humanrace will be partnering with adidas Samba for a capsule collection. He is seemingly keeping extremely busy, and the work is paying off as the industry remains in awe of his work.
