Son of Nick Cave, Jethro Lazenby, dies aged 31

The model had recently been released from jail in Australia, after being convicted of assault against his mother.

In a brief statement, Nick Cave announced that his eldest son, Jethro, has died aged 31. “With much sadness, I can now confirm that my son, Jethro, has passed away. We would be grateful for family privacy at this time.” A cause of death has not yet been revealed.

Jethro was Born in 1991 to Nick and his mother Beau Lazenby. Jethro grew up in Melbourne, Australia but moved to the UK as a young man. He began modelling after being scouted while out in the city and occasionally acted with roles in 2007’s Corroboree and 2011’s My Little Princess. Jethro didn’t meet his father until he was seven or eight years old. “To my eternal regret, I didn’t make much contact with Jethro in the early years, but I now have a great relationship with him,” Cave told The Guardian in 2008.

In April, he was found guilty of unlawful assault, after attacking his mother in March, per The Guardian. He had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, his lawyers announced. He was jailed and released last weekend. He was previously convicted of assault against his previous girlfriend, in 2018.

The model and actor’s death comes less than seven years after Cave’s son Arthur died, aged 15, after falling from a cliff in Brighton.
