Sports Banger finds new uses for Boris Johnson’s COVID-19 letter

Legendary bootlegger and political activist Jonny Banger has asked under 16s to customise the PM's postal update.

Did you receive a patronising letter from PM Boris Johnson in the post? Well, you’re not alone. The UK government has sent this same letter, urging people to stay indoors, to thirty million households across the country. No doubt intended to give the impression that the Conservative leader cares for the “common man” from the bottom of his bleeding-blue heart, it rubbed many the wrong way.

Amongst the sceptics is activist Jonny Banger, the founder of satirical bootleg brand Sports Banger, who has challenged his fans under the age of 16 to customise the letter as a way of showing Mr Johnson how they really feel about his mishandling of the coronavirus crisis (remember “herd immunity”?) and continued attacks on the NHS.

The competition was announced on 12 April, via Instagram with a post that read: “Competition: if you’ve received a letter design a poster. Winner announced Sunday 19th April. Rules: entrants must be under 16 years of age. draw straight on, any side. Envelopes count aswell [sic]. No digital.”

The brief was designed to be as broad as possible, but some helpful prompts were provided by Jonny. “Do what you want but if stuck for ideas some themes you can play with: dogs – fruit – world – dance – nurse – stay home – earth – good – smile – hands – shit – boobs – rich – poor – run – willy – mega – rave.”
