Step inside the V&A’s major Frida Kahlo retrospective

Before Instagram, Frida Kahlo taught us all about the art of the selfie. The long, tiered cotton skirts, the mono-brow and fashions defined by motion and pops of colour.

The iconoclastic Mexican artist and proud feminist was aware of the powerful transformative tool of her wardrobe and bold beauty statements from a young age. The V&A’S major summer exhibition explores Frida’s enduring style legacy, in the first ever of its kind to be held outside Mexico of Kahlo’s clothing and personal possessions, including prosthetics, medicines, accessories, jewellery, photographs and letters. From her favourite Revlon lipstick to her fiery red-leather-booted prosthetic leg here’s what to expect. ‘Frida Kahlo: Making Her Self Up’ runs from 16 June – 4 November 2018 at the V&A.
