Tavi Gevinson will appear in Gossip Girl 2.0

The writer and actor, who rose to fame aged 12 with Style Rookie, will appear in the forthcoming reboot of the noughties teen drama.

Ah, reboots. Whether it’s Charmed or Charlie’s Angels, we can’t seem to get away from them. The latest in the pile is ‘aughts teen drama Gossip Girl, which will be revived by HBO Max. Details about the reboot have been dripping in over the months but yesterday we were hit with a very important announcement: Tavi Gevinson will be among the cast.

Gossip Girl, as much as it was about backstabbing and Blair Waldorf’s headbands, was about a gossip blog that had a hellish grip on a bunch of One Percenters’ lives. Now, many years after the blogger was eclipsed by the influencer, this is probably the most dated aspect of the original show (besides all the misogyny). It’s also what makes Tavi such an excellent fit for the reboot.

First coming to notoriety with her blog Style Rookie in 2008, she’s been one of most enduring successes of the blogging bubble — becoming an in-demand writer, a *serious* actor and, with over 500k followers, a low-key Instagram Influencer. If anyone can help us buy back into the premise that blogs change lives, it’s her.

Whilst we don’t have concrete details of who Tavi will be playing on the show, we do know who she will be appearing alongside. Confirmed actors include Code Black’s Emily Alyn Lind, Thomas Doherty from Hulu’s High Fidelity and Whitney Peak, who’s previously been seen on The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Most importantly, Kristen Bell will return to provide her voiceover talents.
