Ten questions with DIY pop alien Madge

Maximalist pop continues its comeback.

Madge’s latest single, “How To Play” is a mash-up of Gameboy sounds, bad-ass feminine energy and the artist’s maximalist pop aesthetic. In part, it’s about breaking free from the suppressive male presence in the music scene. The rest of it is just about having a real good time.

Listen up below. And find out how Madge would spend her last $10 in LA. Oh and follow her on Instagram here.

Describe your music in three words.

ADHD, magic, lo-fi.

Who is your greatest influence?

My evil cat child or POSSIBLY Avril Lavigne.

Who was the last person you called?

Kobe Wagstaff – an incredible photographer I worked with recently.

What did you talk about?

We were discussing the logistics of scanning polaroids. It was highly titillating.

Would you rather have time or money?

MONEY.

What’s one item of clothing you couldn’t live without?

A big old lady Hawaiian-style shirt that I bought in Glasgow. That’s in a tie with my child-size Air Jordans.

What’s the best way to spend $10?

Probably like… a very spicy Moscow Mule at a mid-price bar?

How about $100?

This chunk is definitely going toward rent.

One album you couldn’t live without?

Cocteau Twins – Heaven or Las Vegas.

What’s happening next for you?

I’ll have an EP out soon! And a show in Los Angeles on 9/29!
