The making of the new Adidas P.O.D. system

When Adidas Originals launched the bold new P.O.D. silhouette back in June, sneakerheads everywhere rejoiced.

The result of many years of archive research, the sneaker combines the best of contemporary technology with classic construction in a unique and flexible new design.

“We went back to the archive and searched out the unusual, and the forgotten. Hundred of boxes” says Nic Galway, Senior VP of Design at Adidas, “Reimagining is so important for inspiration, to look at the past but not to just stay there.”

Inspired by the Adidas Torsion technology from the 1990s, the Originals team looked at multiple soles from the era, and in a bold move – decided to cut them up and combine elements to create the distinctive P.O.D. System 3.1. The modular sole brings together two key innovations: the EVA at the forefront of the shoe, and the Boost unit in the heel for a fluid, adaptive fit.

Find out more in the short documentary below, where the Adidas Originals design team share the process behind creating the shoe and take a look at the stylish new monochrome P.O.D-S3.1 which drops in stores next week.
