The Only Tracks You Need to Hear Right Now

Continuing a theme of stellar movie soundtracks, we queue up the latest from Mitski for The Turning’s OST, J Hus’s waves-making third album and lots more.

Whilst the reviews haven’t been exactly been favourable for The Turning, the Finn Wolfhard-starring horror movie based on the Henry James novella The Turning of the Screw, its soundtrack largely makes up for it. With new releases by Warpaint, Empress Of, Kali Uchis and Soccer Mommy, it’s a veritable who’s who of all your favourite indie songstresses. Our fave is grungey lead single ‘Cop Car’ by the inimitable Mitski, which is helping tide us over until she comes out with another album.

Also on our radar is the new album from J Hus. Despite being leaked early last week (around the same time as Gaga’s “Stupid Love”, interestingly enough…) Big Conspiracy made waves when it was officially released. Refined and introspective, it’s clear that the musician has hit his stride – despite being only 23 years old. The tracks on repeat in the HUNGER office are the LP’s stand-out collabs featuring Koffee and Burna Boy.

Another of our faves of the moment is “Baby”, a mellow slice of dance floor euphoria that accompanied Four Tet’s album announcement on Friday. For those fancying something more substantial, look to Megan Thee Stallion, who has delivered the self-aware, polished “B.I.T.C.H.”. Refusing to compromise for love, the Houston rapper meditates on honesty and integrity with a very 2020 take on heterosexual relationships.
