You’ll likely have clocked East London’s Tiana Major9 from her recent turn on the soundtrack of blockbuster Queen & Slim with “Collide”, a collab with Atlanta duo EARTHGANG. But before she appeared on a tracklist alongside names like Megan Thee Stallion and Lauryn Hill, the Newham native built up industry buzz with a string of well-received singles and 2019’s “REHEARSAL@9” EP. Throw into the mix her hypnotic 2018 Colors session, which has racked up nearly 800,000 views, and you’ve got a veritable star on the rise.
Now, to celebrate the release of her latest single “Think About You (Notion Mix)”, we slid into Tiana’s DMs to hear about her lockdown internet routine, whether TikTok should have an age limit and the longest she can go without her phone (*spoiler* not long!).
@hungermagazine: What’s your earliest Internet memory?
@tianamajor9: Being on Facebook as a teen and getting a lot of notifications saying things like “wow you’re so rude”. I had no idea what they were talking about, then I later find out that I had forgotten to log out of my Facebook and my little sister had commented “ew butters bruv” under this girl’s picture! I snitched and she got in a lot of trouble with my mum.

@hungermagazine: Has your screen time increased since self-isolation lockdown?
@tianamajor9: I’m ashamed that it’s gone up 53% from last week! That’s 13 hours per day… But, in my defence, I’ve been shooting a lot of social media content during lockdown. Money haffi mek!

@tianamajor9: The BabyFace and Teddy Riley IG live had so many, but I cry every time at this one. Is Babyface being shady!? It’s unclear hahaha.
@hungermagazine: You’ve switched to private mode on Spotify: what are you listening to?
@tianamajor9: This sensual, sexy song playlist my friend AB sent me. I play it when I’m feeling sentimental.
@hungermagazine: Last person you stalked on IG?
@tianamajor9: I won’t disclose but it was someone very sexy.
@hungermagazine: Is there such a thing as being too old for TikTok?
@tianamajor9: I don’t think so because I see people like Tabitha Brown using it very well. It just depends on your content.
@hungermagazine: What’s your most-used app?
@tianamajor9: Instagram without a doubt. I don’t even need to check stats!
@hungermagazine: What’s the longest you can go without being on your phone?
@tianamajor9: From experience, I know it’s a day. I’m sure it could be longer though. I’m an artist so I have to always be accessible even though I would love to turn it off for a while. Sigh. One day I’ll go “off the grid” for 10 days. Money haffi mek first.
