Tom Goddard’s VANEBON Universe

A meeting of worlds in retro-futurist fashion.

Photographer and multifaceted creative Tom Goddard visualises Vanessa Bon aka VANEBON’s vital new collection. Through a combination of mediums, the duo shines a light on the glamorous, Allen Jones-infused VANEBON heroine.

Vanessa Bon is a Mexican designer focussing on textile fabrication and silhouettes. After completing internships at design houses such as Thom Browne, Kiko Kostadinov and Charlotte Knowles, amongst others, she presented her first collection during AW20 London Fashion Week as part of the University of Westminster’s press show.

By exploring the archetypes of the female heroine in retro-futurist films, and contrasting this with intricate couture techniques, the woman imagined by Bon’s debut served as a sartorial interpretation of glamour, sportswear and fetish.

Luxurious fabrics contrast with high-tech materials, hyper-feminine silhouettes converged with sharp severe panelling, volume was mixed with the structure to create a meeting point for both universes, resulting in a wardrobe befitting of the female of the future.
