Vans pays homage to Mac Miller in their latest collab, five years after ‘Swimming’

Cult skate brand Vans has made a shoe in conjunction with Mac Miller Estate.

It’s been five years since Mac Miller released his last album Swimming, and to commemorate, Vans have teamed up with the Mac Miller Estate for a new Authentic collaboration.

Swimming initially debuted at number 3 on the Billboard charts when it was released in August of 2018 and was the last to be released before Miller passed away in September of 2018. It won a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album following the rapper’s death, so to celebrate, the Estate and Vans wanted to release an exclusive version of their classic silhouette.

The artist often sported the kicks, with this version helming the same black canvas uppers as his own pair. The toe features a Yin-Yang motif circled by text reading ‘Swimming by Mac Miller’. The white rubber sole that wraps around the foot reads ‘Mac Miller 1992 til ’ with the red Vans branding stamped on the back. The packaging is a special edition ombre pink to purple box, with the same images of Yin-Yang on the top.

The Estate holds the Mac Miller Fund, which “supports programming, resources, and opportunities to youth from underserved communities, helping them recognise their full potential through exploration in the arts and community building. Additionally, the fund may support organisations that identify and address the problems of substance abuse in the music industry and that directly assist youth aged 27 and under with all stages of addiction-recovery treatment and post-treatment services.” A portion of the proceeds from the Vans collaboration will be donated to the charity. The new shoes can be bought via the Mac Miller website now.
