Why does Kanye West have beef with Billie Eilish?
In the latest news of stuff that Kanye West randomly does, the rapper has now said that he might drop out of the Coachella festival in April if Billie Eilish doesn’t apologise for taking a dig at Travis Scott.
But here’s the thing… she didn’t.
At a show in Atlanta last week, Eilish stopped her performance after noticing that one of her fans was having difficulty breathing in the crowd and offered her an inhaler. This, to most people, sounds like an appropriate, caring thing to do for your supporters. However, Ye doesn’t seem to think the same thing. The rapper shared an image of a blog post that captured the act, attesting that Eilish was ‘dissing’ Scott. In fact, all Eilish said was: “I wait for people to be OK until I keep going.”
In December of 2021, ten people died at Scott’s Astroworld concert in Houston from ‘compression asphyxia’. Videos were then plastered all over social media showing people crying for help and trying to let the crowd know that people were in danger. Scott and his team have been called out for negligence, however Scott has said that he had no idea people were dying at his gig until after his performance.
West took to Instagram to ask for Eilish’s apology (yes, all in capital letters):
“COME ON BILLIE WE LOVE YOU PLEASE APOLOGIZE TO TRAV AND TO THE FAMILIES OF THE PEOPLE WHO LOST THEIR LIVES NO ONE INTENDED THIS TO HAPPEN TRAV DIDN’T HAVE ANY IDEA OF WHAT WAS HAPPENING WHEN HE WAS ON STAGE AND WAS VERY HURT BY WHAT HAPPENED AND YES TRAV WILL BE WITH ME AT COACHELLA BUT NOW I NEED BILLIE TO APOLOGIZE BEFORE I PERFORM”
Responding to Ye’s request, Eilish simply said: “Literally never said a thing about travis. was just helping a fan [sic].”
During the incident at Eilish’s gig, the singer’s statement that she waits for people to be ok until the show goes in was simply signposting an expectation and duty of care for the fans who support musicians.
