MVP of the week — Featuring Rema and ASICS

Welcome to HUNGER’s Most Valuable Player, the place to find the best things to buy, watch, do, or listen to each week. Forget about the hype, we want to separate what’s hot, what’s not, and what needs to be on your radar…

Kicking off our final MVP of the week for 2023 is Rema, who released the accompanying video from his standout ‘DND’ track from his Ravage EP. Meji Alabi directs the video and follows Rema breaking out of an arrest, followed by an action-packed, hihg stakes police chase with infrared aerial views, and Rema silencing his critics. The track is all about putting the game on do not disturb and blocking out his denouncers and all the negative comments about him and his music. 2023 has been yet another stellar year for Rema, which included world tours, selling out The O2, and being nominated for Best African Music Act for the 2024 MOBO awards, and much more. ‘DND’ acts as the perfect closer to the Rave & Roses era, ushering in what will undoubtedly be another run for the history books.

Levi’s and BEAMS are back at it again with a limited edition collection that will have many of us selvedge denim nerds frantically rewriting our Christmas list this year. Fall/Winter 2023 introduces the Levi’s x BEAMS Super Wide V2 collection. Drawing inspiration from 1944, the pair have expanded on the beloved SUPER WIDE jeans, enhancing its charm even further. A standout in the Fall/Winter 2023 collab is the Levi’s x BEAMS Super Wide V2 Type I Trucker denim jacket. Crafted from robust 16 oz. custom Orange Tick selvedge denim, it features a striking super wide leather back patch. Launching on January 9, 2024, the limited-edition Levi’s x BEAMS Super Wide V2 collection will be available on Levi.com, beams.co.jp, the Levi’s® App, select Levi’s Stores, and BEAMS stores.

With the winter season well and truly underway, your footwear rotation is most likely in need of an update. Well, unless wet feet sounds appealing to you. And thanks to ASICS’ latest drop, that certainly won’t be happening. ASICS’ pack — aptly named “Earthenware” — offers up the people’s favourite ASICS shoe, the GEL-Kayano 14. Leading the way is a tonal Rust Brown pair, which sees the orange-ish brown hue take over the GEL-Kayano 14 alongside hints of Graphite Grey. ASICS swaps out the shoe’s traditional mesh moments for season-appropriate rip-stop underlays. At the same time, the sneaker’s usual synthetic materials top it all off. ASICS’ GEL-Kayano 14 offering rounds out with a White Sage colorway, supplying a more muted vibe with dark grey accents plus the same constructions. So far, the ASICS GEL-Kayano 14 sneakers are slated to drop on December 22 on ASICS’ website as part of the collection.
