MVP of the week — Featuring ABAGA VELLI and Levi’s x BEAMS

Welcome to HUNGER’s Most Valuable Player, the place to find the best things to buy, watch, do, or listen to each week. Forget about the hype, we want to separate what’s hot, what’s not, and what needs to be on your radar…

Kicking off our first MVP of 2024 is clothing label ABAGA VELLI, who recently launched their e-commerce site today. Founded in 2022, Adémidé Udoma acts as the creative director for the brand, which also unveiled exclusive pieces and a new collection, The Truth, to coincide with the launch. The Truth collection aims to encapsulate “the essence of sanity amid turmoil, misinformation, and ignorance”, whilst offering casual day-to-day pieces rounded off with a welcome helping of formality combined with streetstyle. Meanwhile, the brand itself has garnered a devoted following and has become a favourite for the likes of Little Simz, Ashley Clarke, Micheal Ward, Obongjayar, Rema, Daniel Kaluuya, and John Boyega. Head over to ABAGA VELLI’s website to shop the full collection now.

Levi’s and BEAMS are back at it again with the Levi’s x BEAMS Super Wide V2 collection. Drawing inspiration from 1944, the pair have expanded on the beloved Super Wide jeans, enhancing its charm even further. A standout in the Fall/Winter 2023 collab is the Levi’s x BEAMS Super Wide V2 Type I Trucker denim jacket. Crafted from robust 16 oz. custom Orange Tick selvedge denim, it features a striking super wide leather back patch. Launching on January 9, 2024, the limited-edition Levi’s x BEAMS Super Wide V2 collection will be available on Levi.com, beams.co.jp, the Levi’s App, select Levi’s Stores, and BEAMS stores.

For your first playlist refresher of the year, we have Flatbush Zombies’ Erick The Architect, who begins 2024 with the release of his latest unconventional single, ‘Ezekiel’s Wheel’. Encapsulating the rapper’s left-field approach, the track explores metaphors in the Biblical story of Ezekiel’s wheel, in which God arrives on a chariot drawn by four living creatures, and speaks to the unknowable powers we sometimes call upon to push us through a fight or struggle. The new track is a nod to Erick’s time growing up attending church with his family in Flatbush, Brooklyn, which partly led him to become a musician. The single arrives from the artist’s forthcoming album, I’ve Never Been Here Before (out February 23rd) and is yet another glowing reminder that we should all be tapping in come its release.
