MVP of the week — Featuring Stone Island and BEAMS

Welcome to HUNGER’s Most Valuable Player, the place to find the best things to buy, watch, do, or listen to each week. Forget about the hype, we want to separate what’s hot, what’s not, and what needs to be on your radar…

It might be 2024, but if you’re still looking for your Y2K fix, the latest collection from BEAMS has got you covered. Centred around the theme of “DIRTY HARD BLING,” the upcoming seasonal range explores a contemporary outlook of the Y2K aesthetic. The chaotic culture of the 2000s is expressed through styling reminiscent of London’s street mood, celebrity fashion, and gyaru culture of Japan. Standouts include Japanese-made denim with heavy processing finishes marked by wide silhouettes, a low-rise, and a variety of length and hem openings. Other items include a mesh zip-up hoodie, fluffy knit hoodie, and contrast colour sweatshirt. So, if you’re looking for a blast from the past, BEAMS’ latest collection is  available online now.

This year, it seems as though Japanese streetwear is on the brink of taking over, as alongside BEAMS, Needles and Wildside Yohji Yamamoto have teamed up for a Spring/Summer 2024 collaboration. The team-up features three styles: a track jacket and matching HD track pants, along with a 2B jacket. The tracksuit set features a black base constructed of stretchable and breathable polyester accented by burgundy and white side striping. The 2B jacket offers a generous silhouette for a casual take on the classic blazer with wide lapels, two-button closure, and pockets at the front. Finishing up the design of each item is Needles and Wildside Yohji Yamamoto logo embroidery, along with co-branded tags. The collaboration is now available via Wildside Yohji Yamamoto.

Finally, as part of its Spring/Summer 2024 collection, Stone Island has dropped off an exclusive capsule celebrating the Year of the Dragon. Galvanised by the Chinese zodiac sign, the brand has altered its signature iconography to picture the year’s mythical creature over its classic compass motif. Inside the capsule, Stone Island delivers a reversible bomber jacket, which features one side made from stretch twill weaved mercerized cotton fabric in red and another side composed of nylon metal, a versatile textile born out of the brand’s own research, in black. Stone Island’s Year of the Dragon capsule is now available to shop in select stores and on the brand’s website.
