1980s jewellery is making a comeback at Burberry

[P]art of what makes Burberry so appealing is the label’s commitment to reviving retro trends – thought to never see the light of day again – and rebooting them for the next generation.

This season it was all about the return of the traditional check popularized in the early 90s, chunky socks and plastic separates. The fusion of past, present and future was captured all the more recently as actors Matt Smith and Cara Delevingne modeled Burberry’s new collection (in our gallery below) shot by photographer Alasdair McLellan – set to a soundtrack of Always On My Mind by Pet Shop Boys.

The collection is a “a celebration of British character and charm,” and features laminated trench coats in tartan and check and dresses and tailoring are mixed together with bags and scarves in splashes and stripes. And of course the jewels are something else, and will no doubt speak to Desperately Seeking Susan fans more than anything. From oversized pins to opulent chandelier earrings, statement face furnishing isn’t set to go away anytime soon.

“Introduced on the September runway, our jewellery collection is inspired by British garden flowers,” according to the heritage brand. “Ornate chandeliers and vintage pieces, and crafted in Arezzo, a small Italian town renowned for its creation of fine jewellery.”
