5 blonde hair icons from the ’80s to inspire you this season
Ice Ice Baby.
[B]lindingly blonde hair reached frenzy level this year. Bleached buzzcuts were suddenly everywhere on Instagram (see Cara D, Zoe Kravitz and Kristen Stewart). The memo: virgin hair is so last season; sci-fi platinum dye jobs are the future. Though you can’t help but look to the ‘80s cool-girls for a healthy dose of inspiration – from Blondie to Daryl Hannah – who rocked peroxide strands like no other. Unlike the Old Hollywood pinups (Veronica Lake, Marilyn et cetera), this look was delightfully punk, rough and ready to go.
And the hue of 2017 is spotlighted once more with the release of Charlize Theron’s spy thriller Atomic Blonde, out this month. Tempted to go brighter? Look no further than these iconic beauty muses for your next trip to the salon…
DEBBIE HARRY

An obvious choice we admit. But you can’t write about blonde hair without acknowledging Blondie’s signature shade and textured bob. Debbie Harry essentially redefined platinum hair for the punk era. Tip if you’re set on a Blondie-inspire ‘do: stock up on hairspray and a very intensive masque!
MICHELLE PHIEFFER

Let’s face it: we all pretty much want to channel the indisputably sexy Elvira Hancock in 1983’s Scarface come Saturday night. One of the most memorable hair moments in cinematic history that is a #tbt favorite of ours.

Desperately Seeking Susan - 1985
The legendary singer popularlised visable dark roots and bleached blonde hair. And thanks to the rise of trends from ombre, dip dye and balayage the Desperately Seeking Susan crop is coming back around again. Whatever you do, leave the hairbrush at home – the more disheveled the better.
JERRY HALL

For ‘rich girl’, silken honey blonde ‘80s tresses, take notes from rock ‘n’ roll muse and supermodel Jerry Hall. Her best beauty tip to steal? Slather hair in olive oil. *Raids kitchen cupboard immediately.
DARYL HANNAH

Pris (Daryl Hannah) and her dirty blonde DIY barnet? Rachael with her beautiful bushy brows and peach-coloured pout? We’ve always been a bit obsessed with the beauty looks in 1982 neo-noir Blade Runner. To nail Daryl’s entire vibe, a thick black khol liner is your best friend.
