[S]himmering glamour, intricate embellishment and maximalist colour are what we’ve come to love about Roberta Einer’s aesthetic, and SS18 did not disappoint. Transporting us to a tropical paradise full of palm trees (and ice-cream sandwich snacks), the Estonian-born designer teamed up this season with Vans and Swarovski to create the ultimate skater shoes, a perfect complement to a collection full of relaxed, sporty opulence.
Bringing the LA cool, Einer’s signature bomber jackets and dresses were remagined with a skater girl in mind. Think looser silhouettes, high-octane evening wear with trainers, palm printed mini-skirts and the most luxe t-shirt dresses you could imagine. Continuing fashion’s love affair with all things 1980s, Einer found inspiration from artists Jean-Michel Basquiat and Raymond Pettibon for her custom prints. Plenty of sequins and sparkle abounded but with a mood that was a little more nonchalant and carefree. This was a fun departure from last season’s Art Dec inspired tailoring – and a testament to her versatility as a designer. Our favourite piece? The ‘Never Had a Dream’ sequined trousers. California dreaming – on a cold September day.
