Celebrating 20 years of Mert and Marcus

The picture perfect duo are releasing their first book.

[“][W]e wanted to leave a little bit to the imagination, and we wanted the reader to get excited imagining what’s underneath,” Marcus Piggott said of Kate Moss’s iconic Playboy cover in 2014. Iconic image-makers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott have long caused a stir in high fashion circles. A creative partnership between two club kids was cemented in the mid-90s at party in Hastings; the two shared a love of art, fashion and photography and formed friendships with the likes of Lee Alexander McQueen and stylist Katy England in East London’s glory days.

Fast forward 20 years and Mert and Marcus (as they are affectionately known in the industry) are the most in-demand fashion photographers today redefining modern day glamour and luxury; fascinated with their sexually-charged, confident female subjects including Kate Moss, Madonna and Björk. “Powerful women, women with a meaning, a you-don’t-have-to-talk-or-move-too-much-to-tell-who-you-are kind of woman.” Their seminal work over the years will be celebrated as TASCHEN publish Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott, a limited Collector’s Edition. It is the photography duo’s first book, a retrospective exploring two decades of work and an opportunity to experience their fantastical and complex oeuvre by stepping into the explorations of myth, beauty, strength, darkness, art, and glamour.
