Her advice for launching your own label? “The more experience you can get the better,” she says. “It’s impossible to do it on your own; you have to find the right people who are going to support you.”
Despite the trend for gender fluidity on the catwalk, battling hard against sexism in the fashion industry is still, sadly, a reality. “There’s this belief that male designers are more competent and have more vision,” Charlotte says. “It’s so subtle though you almost can’t call out on it. I felt that with my peers at university. It really affects your confidence and makes you feel like you can’t do it.”
The Charlotte Knowles woman is not to be underestimated though. “She has different sides. Quite playful, really bold but also a bit dangerous. She’s my alter-ego! She’s who I want to be.”
