Check out Manuel Facchini’s crop circle-inspired SS18 collection

Enter a new design dimension.

[M]anuel Facchini knows how to call on unique inspiration for his collections: for Spring Summer 2018, it was mysterious crop circles, and the big bang theory. Facchini’s designs focused “on the idea of discovery…it’s like getting in a new dimension [that] is open to different interpretations”, and this created innovative and diverse looks. The mood of the show was almost genderless, where femininity, “accepts no compromises” and is liquid rather than stereotyped. Facchini creates the fluidity through carefully chosen fabrics, silk is laser cut to create exquisitely tailored pieces and the designer uses macramé embroidery to decorate some of the fabrics.

In all the looks, Facchini kept with his inspiration by decorating with various circles: whether punctured knee high boots or stitched into chiffon, from necklines to flares, the theme was subtly integrated throughout the entirety of the line. Further continuity was apparent through the dynamic colour palette – simply made up of red, white and black – which made all the pieces interweave together without the designs seeming confined by uniformity. A selection of boldly oversized outerwear clashed chicly with the classical dress shapes: cut out sweatshirts paired with sheer pleated skirts and tracksuit trousers accentuated with sky high platform boots. Our favourite look has got to be the flowing parka jackets – block white with red pocket detailing – sure to be a spring must-have for 2018.
