[T]he most unexpected campaign move this season? A lack of models. Alexander Wang, a designer who is all about #SquadGoals on the catwalk, said of his model-free stance that he wanted to highlight the “beauty of an object.” Craig Green’s beautifully abstract SS18 ad goes one step further: creating a series of XL talismanic structures, erected in abandoned surroundings.
Made from colour-blocked single jerseys and pine, interlocking framework patterns emanate from a central human outline to create improbable mechanical looking units, documented in altarpiece style photographic duos. “These simple materials are twisted and stretched to their very limit,” Green says. “A display that explores the idea of transcending both practical and decorative purpose, in pursuit of the purely symbolic.”
Adding: “Eventually embracing destruction and the beauty of impermanence, these images stand as live-in-the-moment celebrations of process over outcome.”
