Created to convey a message and dialogue around those who are underrepresented and under-appreciated, ART SCHOOL is a label celebrating those who don’t fit in the boxes by making clothes that don’t either. The SS19 show, HIGH CONCEPT CHARACTER, focuses on the gender queer body through fluid textures, versatile designs and soft tailoring. Driven by a love of performance art, slow fashion techniques and creating trans-aware pieces, the collection encapsulates all they stand for. Collaborating with queer artist Dominic Myatt on customised jewellery, Gina Shoes on footwear, SHOWstudio on live feeds, talks and performance, ART SCHOOL is a collective and all-encompassing brand exploring the shifting ideas of sexual and gendered difference. As much about the cast as the pieces, the label explained they responded “to each models’ unique idiosyncrasies, [choreographer Holly] Blakey worked with each member of the ART SCHOOL cast of friends, collaborators and loved ones to new realms”. Featuring Munroe Bergdorf and Josephine Jones, the collection celebrates all beauty and breaks down boundaries like none other – in the most theatrical, intimate and powerful way possible.
