Gucci Guy Alton Mason tells us who not to follow on Instagram
Our new favourite face.
[G]ucci guy Alton Mason is our new favourite model. Spotted via Instagram whilst studying dance and film in Los Angeles and thrust into the spotlight making his modeling debut at Yeezy Season 3, Alton has been making statements ever since, most notably as the break-dancing star of Glen Luchford’s Northern Soul-inspired Gucci pre-fall ’17 campaign. Luchford channelled the work of seminal Malian photographer Malick Sidibé, with Alton starring alongside Nicole Atieno, Elibeidy, Bakay Diaby and Keiron Berton Caynes, in a campaign that reflected the vibrant patterns and extroverted prints of Alessandro Michele’s collection and established Alton as a new muse.
We caught up with Alton to find out where to get vintage fits and who not to follow on Instagram.

Hi Alton, what have you been up to this summer?
This Summer I got to visit Jamaica with my family; I spent a week in Montego Bay and did NOT want to leave. Apart from that, I spent most of my summer working, reading, drinking water, and listening to Ctrl by SZA.
We love the looks you rock on Instagram, where do you get your clothes? And how would you describe your personal style?
I find most of my clothes in vintage stores around the world. The small, in-the-cut shops surprisingly carry the flyest pieces. Don’t sleep! My personal style depends on what time machine I choose to jump into that morning. My wardrobe has the ability to reflect any period of time.

Tell us about how you got your break in modeling...
While I was in LA dancing and assisting for LaurieAnn Gibson I got scouted through Instagram. Once I came to New York for fashion week, I found myself standing in front of Young Thug in the line up for Yeezy Season 3.
You starred in Gucci’s pre-fall 17 Northern Soul inspired campaign, was that a career highlight so far?
Yes, a moment in life that I’ll never forget.

That campaign showed off your ability as a dancer as well…Do dance and fashion crossover for you?
Dance and fashion are very harmonious in my world. They both are strong forms of self-expression and I’m blessed to able to work at both while learning and creating.
Tell us about a typical day for you…
A typical day for me consists of prayer, stretching, eating anything and everything with hot sauce, 200 push ups, a gallon of water, and defeating motion sickness with triple spins and flips in my room.

Which emerging fashion brands are you excited about at the moment?
There are so many new, innovative brands emerging in the fashion realm; the first ones that come to mind are Matthew Adams Dolan, Y-Project, & Palm Angels.
Who should we be following on Instagram right now?
Hmm I think the real question is “who SHOULDN’T we follow on Instagram?”. Beware of the shady blogs that are only made to hinder and tarnish the careers of creatives. Stay far away from keyboard-thug accounts that hate under the photos of people who don’t even know them. Oh, and WHATEVER you do; DO NOT COMMENT ON A DONALD TRUMP/ WHITE SUPREMACY PAGE!
Where can we see you next?
At a BBQ devouring hot wings; In the house watching Michael Jackson’s live performances; Living in an 8-count at the studio; or in my room studying Moorish and Egyptian history. I don’t know, Who’s to say where or what “next” is, I’m living in the now and trusting GOD.
