Haizhen Wang explores the global immigration crisis

Living in a box

For AW17, Haizhen Wang explores a life in transit – reflecting on the global immigration crisis. Creating a dystopian scene in London’s Swiss Church, models appeared in constant repetitive motion, inhabiting a sterile setting surrounded by non-descript cardboard boxes.

Deconstructed tailored pieces in wools and jacquard fabrics were cinched in with aeroplane style seat belts. Transparent outerwear suggested fragile contents, with ‘handle with care’ and ‘priority’ slogan badges. Sharp collars paired with pinstripes offered a refreshing take on work wear. This was a thoughtful, elegantly modern collection – and a provocative reflection on the divided era we’re living in.
