‘I Don’t Have Time For This’: inside the Queen of doodle’s new immersive exhibition
The NOW Gallery step into Hattie Stewart's universe.
[H]attie Stewart has her own little universe: a visionary artist and illustrator, her work sweeps you away into the escapist doodle-filled fantasy. At last the NOW Gallery’s new immersive exhibition allows you to engage with her work like never before, step into her space and explore her experimental vision. Opening tomorrow, 16th May, and running until the 25th June, Stewart proves herself to be some of the most daring rising talent in art of the moment.
Focused on a large scale floor artwork, the exhibition invites the viewer to step out the the fast paced world of infinite content and make time: “recline, look up and cross over into Stewart’s fictional universe”, they tell us. With subversive style references galore, the art infiltrates the 60s through psychedelia and then crosses over to the “comic absurdity of hybrid post-modern classics like Who Framed Roger Rabbit“. Densely detailed and incredibly engaging, the piece is mirrored upon the ceiling, drawing you into Hattie Stewart’s world and floating you into space.

The artist Hattie Stewart
Rising to fame after her notorious ‘doodle-bombing’ project, where she draws over magazine covers like Playboy, Vogue and more. Satirical and in homage, the work encourages experimentation and breaking boundaries to step outside the illustration box. Definitely the perfect artist to debut the NOW Gallery Young Artist programme, she exemplifies the commitment of “fostering creativity” and has “an unusual approach…standout visual aesthetic…[which creates] a unique vision for the gallery space”.
