The recent World Health Organisation report showed that cannabis oil has therapeutic benefits for a range of illnesses including Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, MS, pain, anxiety, depression, cancer and diabetic complications to name a few. The British therapeutic cannabis industry is now the largest in Europe and new research shows that cannabis oil use in the UK has doubled in a year.
The Love Hemp range is strictly GMO-free, organic, vegan and 100% natural – with every ingredient extracted from organic hemp. Research also suggests that Cannabidiol oil (CBD) – which is not addictive – has an anti-inflammatory effect and encourages the release and uptake of dopamine and serotonin. At this point it’s worth noting the difference between CBD and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is perhaps more commonly associated with marijuana use. THC, is the intoxicating and psychoactive substance that is responsible for causing the “high” – it’s considered a controlled substance and therefore illegal. Cannabidiol oil (CBD), on the other hand is a non-psychoactive substance, and typically represents about 40% of the Cannabinoids in the Cannabis plant (the cannabis plant contains at least 80 chemical compounds).
Okay, so that’s the science part. After suffering from debilitating migraines since my late teens, I decide to try CBD oil to see what all the fuss is about / is it merely a repackaged £6 bottle of Rescue Remedy? The Love Hemp products include everything from body salves, cold pressed oils, capsules and CBD crystals to “boost skin health,” or edible “gummy bears.” First I try a CBD Oil Spray, which contains Coconut oil and Hemp Extract, spraying twice under my tongue a couple times a day (at £34.99 it’s one of their cheaper products).
I am dubious at first, but after a month and a half I have noticed an overall calming effect. No dizziness or drowsiness, thank goodness. My cystic spots have yet to make an appearance. And to my delight – no migraines! While I’d be hesitant to hand over £400 for the ‘super-dose elixir’ CBD-rich oil, I’ve no doubt that the Cannabis is the new beauty buzzword you’ll be hearing a lot more of in 2018…
