[S]incerity can seem in short supply these days, but not for Jesse Boykins III. The progressive soul polymath has carved out a space for emotion, vulnerability and passion in his music. The past few years have been a time of evolution. Signing with Def Jam and moving to LA have inspired Bartholomew, a 17 track sonic journey accompanied by a short film. Through the lens of his alter ego the album sees the Jamaican-American artist explore modern masculinity without boundaries.
With flavours of R&B, reggae, electronic and salsa, Bartholomew conveys Jesse’s creative rebirth since relocating to the West Coast. It also features some pretty cool collaborations with Willow Smith, Syd, Noname and Luke James. But just who is this Bartholomew and what is he all about? We caught up with Jesse to find out.
