[T]here’s nothing quite like a Kali Uchis and Nadia Lee Cohen collaboration, and throw Tyler, the Creator and Bootsy Collins into the mix and you’ve got the makings of musical and vibey perfection. ‘After the Storm’ is already a funk-filled slinky single from the trio: with Kali Uchis’ lilting vocals layering with Bootsy Collins’ notorious jive and Tyler’s signature sarcastic bars. Speaking about the mesmerising new track, Uchis promises “we can find solace in the fact that we have to go through the bad stuff to truly get to the good…Just because you’re losing at the moment doesn’t mean you’ve lost yet. The storm may be scary now but it’s how your flowers bloom later, and paradise is just beyond the rainbow”.
Already a ideal coming together of some of the biggest talents of our time, it’s hard to find visuals iconic enough to match right? Cue Nadia Lee Cohen and her saturated surrealism. The HUNGER photography fave perfectly captures the bold yet mellow aura of ‘After the Storm’, taking the three into a 60s suburban Americana dream. In keeping with classic Cohen, it’s full of melodramatic make up looks and bird-twiddled blowdried ‘dos, all against a colour blocked surreal set.
