[I]f there’s one major trend to take away from the SS18 shows already, it’s fearless beauty wins. Cookie-cutter, flower power is out – tough biker babes, DIY punks and Hocus Pocus stylings rule this summer. The striking new face to follow now? Jazzelle Zanaughtti, other known as her Instagram handle @uglyworldwide.
The Chicago-born social media sensation – whose amassed 287K Instagram followers – is known for her unique brand of Nu Androgyny: devilish sartorial swag, gold grills and bleached buzz cut. At just 21-years-old she is a star on the rise – walking for Rihanna’s Fenty x Puma, House of Holland and Dilara this season. Here, we catch up with newcomer and face of Nicopanda x Amazon Fashion’s new capsule collection to talk goals, gold grills and her Insta-gang…
Hi Jazzelle! We’re obsessed with your bold looks on Instagram – how would you describe your personal style?
I never normally like to describe my style, I like to wear whatever feels right at the time. The six-piece Amazon Fashion X Nicopanda collection is so versatile though, they’re pieces you can wear all the time! I also enjoy shopping in thrift stores, basing my purchase on what fits me best.
When and how were you scouted? Was modelling always PLAN A?
It was over a year ago, I was scouted by Nick Knight on Instagram. It was the most amazing experience I could ever wish for. I had always thought about modelling but never thought it would happen like it has. For a long time, I was really interested in marine biology and architecture – how things have changed!
Who are you following on Insta RN and why?
I love following Fecal Matter, their vibe and aesthetic is unparalleled. I also follow my friend Zain (@teenwitchfc) who I’ve known since I was young; he’s a drag queen in Chicago. He changes his style all the time and never disappoints! My friend @jpegpapi who is a make-up artist is also a great one to follow, he was the first friend I made in Chicago when was 17. His creativity is mind blowing!
Do you think gender-bending fashion is the future?
I think it should be and that fashion should be inclusive to everyone; people should be encouraged to wear and enjoy whatever they like.
When and why did you get your signature gold grills?
I got them about a year ago because I like to shine!
Has the runway become more inclusive IYO?
It’s getting better and I am 100% behind making it a more and more diverse industry.
Advice you would give your teenage self?
Be yourself and don’t feel like you must try and fit in with people. You are the future and you need to go with your gut.
Any exciting plans or goals for the future?
Honestly? I don’t really think about the future. I love to live life day by day and enjoy it to the full!
