Meet the new faces of London Fashion Week SS17

Meet the models.

[W]ith London Fashion Week starting this Thursday, here are a few fresh faces we’ll be keeping an eye out for…

Ayaana Aschker-Stevens, Premier Model Management, @AYXVNA

How were you discovered?

I’ve been interested in the fashion world for as long as I can remember. Growing up in Hackney you see such a variety of styles, colour and cultural variety. At school I was lucky enough to get work experience at Premier Model Management, after the experience was over they thought I had potential as a model and I was lucky enough to sign with them!

What are you looking forward to most during LFW?

Wearing some beautiful clothes, meeting lots of different people and getting catwalk experience. Seeing how hard my uncle and cousin (Joe and Charlie Casely-Hayford) work to create their collections for London Fashion Week makes me really appreciate it. If I can just be a small part of it by showcasing the beautiful clothes produced by the designers – that would be wonderful.

What’s the best thing about being a model?

There are so many – working with a variety of creative people, travelling to different destinations and being able to wear beautiful clothes. Also, having the potential to make some sort of living doing something you love. I feel extremely privileged to have that chance.

When do you feel most beautiful?

When I’m tanned and my skin is glowing.

If you could work with anyone in the industry who would be in your dream team?

I love the feminine, timeless elegance of Chanel. Beyonce is a hero of mine. Great singer, songwriter, actress and now involved in a clothing line, Ivy Park. If Chanel and Beyonce could do something together? Wow! I’d love to be involved.

When I was seven years old I was featured in a little book called “When I Grow Up.” It was created by an organisation connected with after school clubs and featured answers from kids to the question: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” My answer was that I wanted to be a model!

Ella McRobb, Premier Model Management, @ELLAMCR

How were you discovered?

I was singing at The Clothes Show in 2014 and was approached by Storm, Select and Premier. I chose to sign with Premier because they were the most hands on and nurturing – given my age at the time (14) – it felt like being part of a family.

What are you looking forward to most during LFW?

The chance to walk to for great fashion designers and to experience the buzz of my first fashion week!

What’s the best thing about being a model?

I get to experiment with hair, clothes and make-up. It gives me a great sense of independence and achievement.

When do you feel most beautiful?

After a great shoot when I get the feedback from the team and when the make-up is really minimal.

If you could work with anyone in the industry who would be in your dream team?

I’d love to work with Louis Vuitton because I love their classic style and beautiful dresses. I also like Burberry – it would be a dream to work with them!

Tell us a secret about yourself..

I’m terrified of thunder and lightning

Angelina Jesson, Premier Model Management, @ANGELINAJESSON

How were you discovered?

I had just graduated from Central Saint Martins and a friend and I decided we would take a trip through the different modeling agencies and see if anyone would have us! The first place I went was Premier, which instantly felt right, and for some crazy reason they liked me too.

What are you looking forward to most during LFW?

There’s such an amazing creative scene of young artists and designers in London, especially during LFW. This will be my first fashion week walking and I am really looking forward to being a part of it.

What’s the best thing about being a model?

I make video and performance art and I love that modelling can be another extension of this; depending on what a photographer, brand and designer wants I get to become this exaggeration, hyper-real version of myself or an entirely different person all together.

When do you feel most beautiful?

I feel strangely beautiful when I am performing. My collaborator and I create sci-fi inspired narratives and we feature in our films as bald, androgynous looking aliens.  There’s something amazingly liberating about not having to identify with being female, male or even human.. even if it’s just for a performance piece!

If you could work with anyone in the industry who would be in your dream team?

The dream for me would be to work with David Lachapelle and Pete Greenaway wearing Jean Paul Gaultier’s SS/94 ready to wear collection. These are all people who have majorly influenced my own style and taste. I have no doubt that whatever is created will be a colourful hodgepodge of eccentricities and kitschiness.

Tell us a secret about yourself..

I have an abnormally large collection of snow globes and denim.

Jessica Pimenta, Premier Model Management, @JESSPIMENTAA

How were you discovered?

I was scouted by IMG Models and Premier Models at The Underage Festival in 2011 when I was only 13. I decided to go with IMG as at the time it felt like the way to go. A couple of years down the line it did not go as I was hoping and I decided to get in contact with Premier Models and signed with them.

What are you looking forward to most during LFW?

London Fashion Week is such an exciting time – stressful I’m assuming, but what an event to be apart of! My first ever job I got with Premier was the Gucci Cruise Fashion Show at Westminster Abbey. I enjoyed every second and I would love to have the chance to work with all the designers, makeup artists, hair artists, photographers, models everyone involved!

What’s the best thing about being a model?

It’s a great way to have fun, travel and work around the world. Fashion is an international industry and to be a part of something so huge is incredible! I couldn’t really tell you the best thing about being a model for me, it’s just the journeys I get to go on that I know can be challenging but how fun and different it is to normal life!

If you could work with anyone in the industry who would be in your dream team?

I would love to work with Mario Testino, his work is incredible and what an amazing adventure it would be working with him. Annie Leibovitz would also be amazing!

Tell us a secret about yourself...

When I was little I remember watching Peter Pan. I used to think if I sprinkled my mum’s eyeshadow over me it would make me fly. After doing so I decided I could test this by jumping off the little Wendy house in my back garden. It didn’t end how I thought it would. So I decided to use my mum’s lipstick, that didn’t work either. I just ended up with a sprained ankle. To this day I still haven’t found a way to fly.

Madeleine Knighton, Elite Model London, @MADELEINEKNIGHTON

How were you discovered?

I got scouted a couple of times by agencies at festivals and decided to apply online.

What are you looking forward to most during LFW?

I am most excited for the experience, getting to meet new people, as well as the clothes and the atmosphere. It will be my first London Fashion Week so I can’t wait.

What’s the best thing about being a model?

The best thing about being a model is meeting new people and having the opportunity to wear beautiful clothes.

When do you feel most beautiful?

I feel most beautiful when I have my makeup done and I’m ‘glammed up’. But I love the natural look and wearing no makeup, nothing beats naked skin.

If you could work with anyone in the industry who would be in your dream team?

Dream team would be to work with Victoria Secrets, every girls dream. Their iconic catwalk shows and women empowerment attracted me to modeling.

Tell us a secret about yourself..

I have a secret talent at being able to do different accents.

Sylvia Harper, Elite London

How were you discovered?

I was scouted when I was 15 outside Wembley Arena.  I was going to a concert with some friends in London and I just remember being so terrified that I made them turn away when I was having my picture taken. Tragic

What are you looking forward to most during LFW?

I’m looking forward to seeing loads of the other models again and just to be a part of all the craziness. I can’t wait!

What’s the best thing about being a model?

Being a model is such an exciting job because it’s a career that gives you the opportunity to travel and meet loads of new people whilst doing so. There are so many different places I’d love to visit and modelling could really help make this possible.

When do you feel most beautiful?

I think that when I’m feeling genuinely happy about something and when I’m just in a really great mood overall, that’s when I feel most confident in my own skin.

If you could work with anyone in the industry who would be in your dream team?

There are so many talented people in the fashion industry but I would love to work with Mario Testino as I’m constantly amazed by his work. I also think that if I had the chance to work alongside any other model I’d have to choose Karlie Kloss.  She’s always been one of my favourites and she’s definitely someone I look up to in the industry!

Tell us a secret about yourself...

For a long time, when I was still at school and college, modelling was actually my biggest secret! Glad to say that’s no longer the case. On a slightly different note, I’m also a shamefully messy person. I seriously struggle to keep things tidy and I lose things in my room on a daily basis.
