Model of the moment Kaia Gerber opened the show in a bright orange zipped skirt suit and pillar box hat that was part Jackie O, part sixties air hostess. This theme ran throughout most of the show, in varying shades of pastel hues and, from time to time, recreated in a print from earlier Moschino shows. We noted the prescription medicine print of last season and that of the Moschino Eau de Fresh bottle from 2015. Other nods were given to previous Moschino best sellers too – the leather biker bag from SS17 was here again rendered this time in soft mint leather.
Following on from the tough leather and lace bikers of last season AW18 had a distinctive ladylike edge, ramping up the movie star glamour at the final turn as a who’s who of models – including the Hadid sisters and Joan Smalls – took to the catwalk in shimmering silk and sequinned gowns adorned with bows, sashes and trains in a battle between good taste, bad taste. It was all very Miss World (and a subtle hint perhaps to the current President).
Referential, upbeat and delightfully kitsch it was just another reminder of why Jeremy Scott is a breath of fresh air in an increasingly stale fashion climate.
