For a minute, the plan worked, “There were times when he did come and pick me up and I would be listening to his music in the car and I would be gassed. But after that there was just a repeated pattern of ‘he’s not gonna come, he’s not gonna come’”.
“That’s when I just started to do my own thing. There was a massive period of time when I forgot that I even had a dad,” he explains, “I just started making music. Music, music, music. And things started working out for me…”
That was the beginning of the process that eventually yielded “Addison Lee” which was followed up by other multi-million players, “Aladdin” and “My Lover”. All three songs would appear on the EP Take Not3s, which crystallises Not3s’ combination of rapid-fire lyricism, irresistible hooks and production that incorporates influences from pop, grime, garage, afrobeat, bashment and dancehall. Essentially, Take Not3s is a nine-track introduction to the UK music scene in 2018.
